Medication Inspection

What we offer

The medication inspection is the most robust and targeted medication check the Leicestershire Training Team have to offer. This in-depth and inclusive inspections involves the following:

  • A review of the previous three months of the home’s medication administration record
  • A medication policy and procedures review including the dissemination and understanding of staff
  • Medication observation of several medication rounds
  • Review of medication charts and PRN protocols for accuracy, a person centred approach and DoLS compliance
  • A check of medication storage facilities, medication stock, ordering and delivery systems
  • Controlled drug inspection, ensuring compliance under the Misuse of Drugs Act
  • Homely remedies storage, usage, ordering and recording
  • Medication care plan review
  • A medication knowledge check on medication administering staff
  • Near miss and medication error recording, reporting and learning
  • Review of the medication quality and assurance system

The medication inspection includes a final report which can be used to demonstrate ability in a CQC, CHC or local authority inspection. The report includes a rating system on safety, with recommendations and action points.

It is care homes’s decision whether or not to undertake the recommendations. The Leicestershire Training Team doesn’t undertake the corrective work but is able to support with the improvements through the Pay Per Hour package or the Ongoing Support package.
